Microbiology Laboratory

Botulism

Laboratory diagnosis of diseases caused by Clostridium botulinum and its neurotoxins has been our business for 20 years. We would like to support you on the way to a valid diagnosis. In addition to cultivating the bacteria, in-house antigen and antibody ELISAs, we also offer toxin typing for various sample matrices.

Microbiology

No matter if you are working with large animals like cattle, horse, pigs or you are focusing on companion animals like dogs or cats, our microbiology lab offers a comprehensive list of microbiological analyses and tests with a special expertise on Clostridia. Highlight is our MALDI-TOF based identification and comparison of the microbes.

Mastitis

The clinical signs of mastitis alone do not always allow for identifying the pathogen. We help you to find the causative agent and the appropriate treatment/antibiotic based on valid testing for resistance.

Microbial Ecology

The animal health status decides on the performance of the animal and in the end on the operating profit of the farm. And animal health depends to a great extent on the interaction of microbes, the microbiome. Our FBF analyses help to control and to optimize the microbiome, leading to better health and performance. If needed, consulting by our veterinarians either by phone or on-site improves this process.

Analyses of Food and Feed Samples

In our laboratory all kinds of food and feed samples can be analysed with a special focus on Clostridia and their toxins. The results support the quality control of your products or help to answer any microbiological issues you might have.

Vaccines

For the protection of cattle against Clostridium botulinum with types C and D the Botulism vaccine from Onderstepoort Biological Products can be obtained from us. And if commercial vaccines do not show the desired success or a vaccine for pathogens or toxins isolated from your samples is not available, we would be happy to supply you with auto-vaccines with the support of our partners.

Vaccines

Auto-Vaccines

If commercial vaccines do not show the desired success or a vaccine for pathogens or toxins isolated from your samples is not available, an auto-vaccine can be the key to success. We isolate suitable vaccine candidates from your samples, check their potency in terms of toxicity and select one or more isolated. With the support of our partners an auto-vaccine is made, which exactly reflects the infectious disease status and the exposure to selected pathogens of the farm.

Food and Feed Samples

Food and feed samples of all types as well as environmental samples can be analysed microbiologically in our lab with a special focus on Clostridia and their toxins. The results support the quality control of your products or help to answer any microbiological issues you might have.

Microbial ecology

The analysis of the microbiome opens up new possibilities for health monitoring: Not only pathogens are identified, but rather conclusions can be drawn about feeding, hygiene, and other management aspects. “FBF” stands for MALDI-TOF based, species-specific identification and differentiation of micro-organisms and counting the respective amounts of the individual populations in faeces, bedding and feed. Other samples and sample types can be included in the testing, if needed. Targeted sampling, fast and efficient laboratory testing and comprehensible reporting are guided by our veterinarians. The efficient implementation of measures deduced from our reports can be supported on-site by our veterinarian Dr. B. Schwagerick, who has a long-standing record in farm animal and laboratory medicine.

mastitis

On dairy farms, udder health is the top priority. In the case of mastitis, however, one often reaches one's limits, since the clinical signs of mastitis alone do not always allow for identifying the pathogen. A microbiological analysis is therefore highly recommended. At miprolab we offer a validated MALDI-TOF based identification for bacterial pathogens and if requested als mycological testing. We also help you to identify the appropriate treatment/antibiotic based on valid testing for resistance for the relevant pathogens.
